Nutiva is concerned about the impact genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are having on our natural world and human health. Since our inception in 1999, Nutiva has had a non-GMO policy, and we only source non-GMO ingredients.

Currently GMO crop pollens are blown across fields and often cross-pollinate non-GMO crops. To date the agricultural biotech industry has not taken responsible measures to deal with this situation. Due to our concern, Nutiva established a non-GMO audit trail to reduce the chances that Nutiva products may contain genetically modified organisms. Continued ...

Nutiva uses the finest certified-organic ingredients, grown without pesticides and herbicides—safer for you and the planet. Our products are certified by Quality Assurance International (QAI). Nutiva obtained the right to use the new USDA Organic Symbol when it became effective in October 2002.

Nutiva has been converting more of its hempseed products to organic hempseed in 2005. We anticipate our bulk hempseeds to be organic in 2006. By growing hemp in California, we can help to reduce organic hemp seed shortages. Laws need to be changed for this to happen. We support the California state bill AB 1147.
