		Nutiva® Supports GE-Free Sonoma County Initiative to Protect Organics (Sebastopol , CA — July 26, 2004) Nutiva, a Northern California manufacturer of organic hemp and coconut food products, today announced it has made a two-thousand dollar donation to the GE-Free Sonoma County initiative scheduled to go on the November 2nd ballot. "We are pleased to support progressive California communities fighting the release of genetically engineered foods and organisms and maintaining the integrity of organic foods," said Nutiva founder and president John W. Roulac. GE-Free Sonoma County is a grassroots organization working to keep Sonoma County's farms, ecosystems, and public lands free from contamination by genetically engineered (GE) organisms. Margaret Pennington, Chair of the 10,000 member Redwood Chapter of the Sierra Club said, "Of particular concern to the Sierra Club are releases of genetically engineered organisms into the environment because they have such potential for detrimental and irreversible effects on natural ecosystems. The national Sierra Club has a very strong position against the release of GE organisms, calling for a moratorium on the planting of all genetically engineered crops." Read the full Press Release.
