In his show, Dr. Oz talks about supplements being a key component of our diets to keep us healthy after age 50 and beyond.  Dr. Oz then talks about some common health concerns, such as low energy, bone health, weight, chronic disease, and Alzheimer’s.

It’s no surprise to us that Chia Seeds made his Top 5 Supplements list.

He recommends Chia Seeds for weight reduction, especially after our metabolism begins to slow.  He recommends taking 15 grams per day of chia seeds as a fiber source, grains and omega 3.

Here’s a great snack recipe submitted by our friend Susan.  She brought these delicious Raw Organic Chia Seed Crackers to the Nutiva Open House party on Dec 7th, and we were really impressed.
Note: This recipe requires a dehydrator.

Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1.5 cups Nutiva Chia Seeds
Bragg Liquid Aminos
Soaked sunflower and/or pumpkin seeds

Directions:

  • 1.5 Cup Chia Seeds in medium sized bowl.
  • Add about 2 – 3 cups water, stirring as it thickens.
  • Add Bragg to taste.  (I add some to the mixture and also spray some on top after spreading.)
  • Spread mixture on dehydrator trays in large squares (about 3/8″ thick.)
  • Score the large square into bit-sized squares.
  • Dehydrate at 110 degrees (F) until completely dry and crunchy.  Turn over about halfway through.

Total time: about 8 hours.

Options: add Soaked sunflower and/or pumpkin seeds and your favorite spices and herbs.
