Nutiva takes the selection of our natural food ingredients quite seriously. We strive to create delicious foods that are not only nourishing but help support optimal health. For our recipes, we select the nutritious seeds of hemp, flax, sesame, sunflower, and pumpkin, along with nuts such as almondsand hazelnuts and the Asian staple brown rice. Seeds and nuts are storehouses of the "good fats" as well as vitamins, minerals, and protein. Rice is a historic source of protein, vitamins, and minerals, and is a good energy source for the body. We choose alternative natural sweeteners that include honey, lo-han fruit, and agave and brown rice syrups, all of which are superior to white sugar and can reduce the "sugar blues" effect. We leave out certain foods that do not meet our standards such as peanuts, canola or soy oil, and soy proteins or soy protein isolates. Such ingredients have potential allergens, anti-nutritional toxins, pesticides, and/or digestive issues associated with them. Soy is the second most heavily chemically sprayed crop in the United States. In this country, 85% of the crop is genetically modified, and even organic soy is often contaminated with GMOs.
